In 2005, Stauss (who was known around the Swiss Jazz and Rock scenes for playing in \u201c<em>\u00dcberfall<\/em>\u201d and \u201c<em>Spaltklang<\/em>&#8220;) began a partnership with Zago, resulting in the different parallel projects \u201c<strong><em>Neolithicum Duo<\/em><\/strong>&#8221; (2005), \u201c<strong><em>Yugen<\/em><\/strong>&#8221; (2005), and \u201c<strong><em>Kurai<\/em><\/strong>&#8221; (2008). &#8230; By means of free improvisation, the duo promotes the total deconstruction of the regular musical structures in time and space, resulting in a kind of anti-music that creates dreamy to concrete audio-visual impressions that may either disturb, or calm down, the listener. \u201c<strong><em>Diafonia Leitmotiv Waves<\/em><\/strong>\u201d features 11 tracks. Beyond the experimentation and avant-garde attitude present on tracks such as the weird \u201c<strong><em>Introitus<\/em><\/strong>\u201d (2:37); the noisy \u201c<strong><em>Nordwind<\/em><\/strong>\u201d ; the squeaking and cartoonish \u201c<strong><em>Wie Kinder<\/em><\/strong>\u201d ; and the chaotic \u201c<strong><em>Es Fuegt Sich<\/em><\/strong>\u201d (4:56) (which combines statics, interference, hysterical sax, and guitars that have a strange \u201cdeep-sink\u201d sound), <strong>Zauss<\/strong> finds some interesting musical results on tracks like \u201c<strong><em>Diafonia<\/em><\/strong>\u201d , which has a vivid song-structure that arises by the confrontation between Zago\u2019s syncopated guitar and the elephantine sax of Stauss; and &#8220;<strong><em>Crescendo con Fuoco<\/em><\/strong>&#8221; , an initially mourning piece that goes gradually hectic, with the coming of the rhythmic guitar that emulates the sound of bass and drums, and of the frenetic sax. The main pieces of the album are \u201c<strong><em>Adagio Molto<\/em><\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong><em>Prima dell&#8217;Alba<\/em><\/strong>\u201d , both of which reflect the state of introspectiveness experimented by the two musicians when they are concentrated on their improvisional sessions. \u201c<strong><em>Adagio \u2026<\/em><\/strong>\u201d, although slow, is poignant and sensitive, driven by a delicate sax tune, which is reinforced on its subtleness by the cosmic-sounding guitars; while \u201c<strong><em>Prima \u2026<\/em><\/strong>\u201d offers a beautiful melody that arises from the sax to be superposed to a soft and nostalgic guitar plucking. Speaking of emotions in their purest state, the following tracks are really good on impressing the listener with deep feelings: \u201c<strong><em>Senza Troppa Eleganza<\/em><\/strong>\u201d transmits a feeling of misplacement; \u201c<strong><em>Lamento<\/em><\/strong>\u201d is slow and melancholic, but on its lengthy duration one can realize a kind of chamber-music symphonic structure, as Stauss goes on extracting violin-like sounds from his tenor sax; and finally, \u201c<strong><em>Gran Noturno<\/em><\/strong>\u201d is hypnotic, unreal, slumbering, and frightening, recalling a piece of the band \u201c<em>Art Zoyd<\/em>\u201d. After listening to \u201c<strong><em>Diafonia Leitmotiv Waves<\/em><\/strong>\u201d, I can tell for sure that <strong>Zauss<\/strong> stays firmly compromised with the aim of making unconventional music, and is determined to contradict and destroy all musical dogmas.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":590,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-152","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-english"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
